The Best of PCWorld

What's the best category of software available today? I vote for the security suite. PCWorld recently ran our annual torture test of 14 security packages (see "Best Security Suites: PC Bodyguards") and we were amazed by how effective they were at catching malware. The average detection rate across all 14 products was 99.4 percent, the highest figure we've seen in all our years of testing. There are differences among the products, of course, in interface, drag on system performance, and scan speed. But by and large, this is a software category populated by highly competent players--which is good news, since the bad guys aren't about to let up.
