Guitar Lesson - Major Scales & Bridging The Fingerboard

Major Scales & Bridging The Fingerboard

Hi Bharath,

The first step to improvising freely on the guitar is the ability to be unrestricted on the fingerboard. You want the freedom to visualize shapes in every zone of the fingerboard. With this knowledge, you'll be able to connect these shapes and patterns across the entire range of the guitar.

A question I get asked quite often is, "How can I solo up and down the guitar and connect everything?"

The answer is: You need to practice scales patterns and learn to bridge these patterns.

The first way I like to practice bridging is to find the same pattern across the fingerboard in any given scale.

For example, I might find a 1-2-4 fingering everywhere possible.

The following example is a 1-2-4 fingering in G major:

We want to show guitarists a method that defines HOW to solo over a set of chords and how to identify what to play. With the 'Rock & Blues Improvisation' ... we will really focus on "Improvisation" as a main theme. Click here to check it out
