MSI CX640 Notebook Announced

MSI has added a new notebook to their line up with the launch of the MSI CX640, which comes with 1 16 inch HD TFT LCD display, plus a choice of Intel Core i5 processors.

Graphics is provided by an NVIDIA GeForce GT 520M 1GB GPU, and it comes with up to 8GB of DDR3 RAM, there is also a choice of either a 320GB or 640GB hard drive plus a Blu-ray and DVD combo drive as standard.

New York Times Paywall Arriving On March 28th

The New York Times has today announced it will be introducing a new Paywall and start charging subscriptions for access to its content. Once the new paywall is in place on the March 28th visitors will be able to visit and read up to 20 articles a month for free, but anything after that and you will need to subscribe.

The New York Times paywall subscriptions start at $15 for web access and via smartphone app’s, $20 allows you to use your iPad rather than a smartphone and a massive $35 a month allows you to use both your iPhone and iPad to read the New York Times content. Or you can subscribe to the paper copy of the publication and get unlimited access to the digital version, except on e-readers like the Kindle and the Nook.

Richard Bransons Project Magazine iPad App Goes Free

THX Creating Steerable Line Array Speakers

THX have announced they are developing a new type of speaker system that will allow them to direct sound to certain areas of a room from one place, rather than arranging multiple speakers around the room.

The THX Steerable Line Array Speakers which is currently under development uses 60 metal dome tweeters and 32 3.5-inch drivers, with each driver equipped with its own dedicated 100-watt analog amplifier, creating 92 amplifiers with 100 watt’s each providing a whopping 9,200 watts of music power, oh yes!

Kiwi PC Launches Linux Destop PC For Senior Citizens

Kiwi PC has launched a new Linux desktop PC, which it says is designed for ‘Senior Citizens’, this new Linux desktop PC runs Ubuntu Linux , and is designed to make it to connect to the web, use email and various software applications.

The Kiwic PC features large icons and text making them easier to view, and it features a fully customizable ‘Me Menu’ which is designed to provide users with access to their most viewed websites and programs direct from the computers desktop.

Witcher 2 Digital Premium Edition Arriving At GOG Without DRM

The Good Old Games (GOG.com) website has announced that it will soon be selling the Witcher 2 Digital Premium Edition as a PC download without any DRM attached. Managing Director of Guillaume Rambourg explains that DRM is not a great way to protect games from piracy and thinks that DRM effects the gaming experience in a negative way.

GOG are able to provide the DRM free version due to it being a sister company of the CD Projekt RED, the development house behind The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings.

Pentax Launches Optio RS1500 Compact Camera

Pentax has added a new compact camera to its range with the launch of the new Pentax Optio RS1500, which is fully customizable with a range of interchangeable lens rings and skins for the front of the camera.

Mass Effect 2 Wins Best Game At The British Academy Video Games Awards

The British Academy Video Games Awards, BAFTAs for video games was held last night and Mass Effect 2 from EA won the Best game prize. With Heavy Rain created by Quantic Dream exclusively for the PlayStation 3 gaming system, winning 3 well deserved awards for Story, Original Music, and Technical Innovation.

Other winners were Cut the rope for handheld gaming and Call of Duty: Black Ops from Activision won the public GAME Award which is award from public votes.

T-Mobile G-Slate Coming April The 20th?

The T-Mobile G-Slate was expected to be released later this month, the 23rd of March was a date we had heard previously, although it looks like the G-Slate may now actually launch on the 20th of April.

According to TMO News, the G-Slate will go on sale on April the 20th in the US, and an official announcement is expected next week at CTIA.

Western Digital Launches 6TB My Book Studio Edition II

Mozilla Announces New Firefox Release Schedule

Today Mozilla has announced more details on its new Firefox release schedule that it promised to adopt after the release of its latest Firefox 4 browser release due on the 22nd March. Adopting a more Google Chrome methods of updates using smaller and faster released versions rather than holding back smaller updates and modifications to launched in a larger release.

The new release over time method will include a number of channels to allow for continuous new feature development on mozilla-central, while the other channels are devoted to stabilising features ready for a wider audience.

Google’s Android Browser Is Faster Than iPhone’s Safari

According to the guys over at Blaze Software, Google’s Android browser is faster than Apple’s Safari browser on the iPhone, and they have conducted a pretty comprehensive test.

The guys from Blaze tested the browser in Android 2.3 against the Safari browser on the iPhone running iOS 4.3, and they tested a total of 45,000 page loads to see which device had the fastest browser.

iPad 2 Smart Cover Turns Your iPad 2 Into A Fridge Friendly Device

When the original iPad was launched last year, we saw many innovative ways for it to be used, it was attached to walls, fridges, cupboards and basically any flat surface with a range of custom cases.

Now it seem that Apple’s new iPad Smart Cover has a hidden benefit, the built in magnets seem to be strong enough to attach your iPad 2 to your fridge, although we wouldn’t recommend you try this yourself just in case. According to Leander Kahney from Cult of Mac, the magnets in the iPad 2 Smart case are strong enough to keep it attached to your fridge.

iPhone 5 To Feature Same Design As iPhone 4?

Apple will announce this years iPhone, the iPhone 5 some time over the next couple of months, we are expecting to heard something around June time, and already we have heard a number of rumors about the new iPhone 5.

The latest rumor is that the iPhone 5 will share the same design as the existing iPhone 4, the new comes for French Mac website, MacBidouille who has a photo of what is reported to be a case for the next generation iPhone.

New Dead Island Game Screenshots Hint At Big Bosses

A few new screenshots have been released by Techland for their’Dead Island’ Zombie survival game thats currently in development. The team recently released a heartbreaking horror trailer for their new Dead Island game which caused a stir and have now followed up with a few screenshots to tease us a little more before release.

The first shows a formidable foe complete with straight jacket, which might prove a little hard to take down considering there isn’t going to be any firepower or guns of any kind on the Island. Just weapons you can fashion together from everyday objects. Lets hope there are some very big gas canisters somewhere nearby.

Opera 11.10 Barracuda Beta Now Available To Download (video)

As reported yesterday Opera has now released its Opera 11.10 Barracuda Beta as scheduled. The new version includes some new innovations including the new ‘speed dial’ feature that has been designed to make visiting your favourite website even easier. Other development work includes a number of changes to network compatibility making Opera more compatible with other web browsers and its core has been updated from 2.7.62 to 2.8.99 which allowed implementation of the Web Open Font Format (WOFF).

Commodore Releases Prototype Photos Of New Commodore 64

Commodore USA has unveiled some new prototype images of the new Commodore 64, and it looks like this retro styled PC is getting closer to production.

Blackberry Advises Disabling Javascript After Loophole Hack Discovered

Research in Motion has issued an announcement advising Blackberry users to disable their Javascript after a critical vulnerability loophole has been discovered, that could allow hackers access to Blackberry devices. The security hole could allow hackers to remotely execute malicious code on Blackberry devices and even access confidential data stored on the phones.

The announcement has been released after Research in Motion smartphones were hacked during the yearly Pwn2Own competition. The hack effects devices running running BlackBerry 6 OS and allowed a contestant to steal a complete contact list and cache of pictures stored on the Blackberry device, even allowing them to write a file to the Blackberry’s storage system.

NVIDIA 3D Vision Wireless Glasses Receive Updates And Price Cut

NVIDIA have announced they have made a few tweaks to their NVIDIA 3D Vision glasses to help push their 3D products a little faster. The main update to the glasses from NVIDIA is the extension of their battery life, with the addition of another 50 percent of life on a single charge. Providing a 60 hour life rather than the original 40 hours.

Visa Looks To Take On PayPal In The US With Personal Payments System

It looks like Visa is attempting to take on payment system PayPal in the US with a new personal payment system in the US, where users will be able to send and receive payments to and from other Visa users using their Visa credit or debit card.

Basically you will be able to send and receive payments to anyone who uses a Visa card, and the payments can be sent direct to their card using their 16 digit card number, or their email address and vene their mobile phone number.

Kongregate Arcade Updated With Support For Honeycomb Tablets

Solar Uniforms To Power British Soldiers Equipment

Soldiers have to carry a large amount of equipment around with them, one piece of that equipment is a chemical battery which is currently being used by British soldiers to power a range of gadgets.

Now a new ‘Solar Uniform’ is being developed for British soldiers by the University of Glasgow, with Loughborough, Strathclyde, Leeds, Reading and Brunel Universities, which is designed to be 50 percent lighter than conventional chemical batteries.

Pepsi Unveils New Line Of PET Bottles

Pepsi are leading the way in bottling technology with fresh news of their plant- based ambitions announced this week. PET (polyethylene terephthalate) is an incredible material and Coca Cola’s archnemesis has perfected  how to create it out of plant byproducts as sundry as orange and potato peel. The result is a 100% PET bottle. Coca Cola, on the other hand, only uses less than half that percentage in its own bottling.

Internet Explorer 9 Hits 2.3 Million Downloads On First Day

On its release day March 15th, statistics released now show Internet Explorer 9 notched up 2.3 million downloads, which on first impression would seem an impressive figure.Yet when you start comparing it to other browsers first day scores, the number soon starts to lose a little of its shine.

For instance, on the launch day of Firefox 3 way back in 2008, it was downloaded over 8 million times, and currently still holds the record for a piece of software on launch day. This was shortly following by Firefox 3.5 with an impressive 5 million downloads. But will any browser be able to come close to these figures in todays Internet?

HTC Thunderbolt Finally Goes On Sale

It certainly has been a long time coming, the HTC Thunderbolt launch was delayed a number of times, but it has finally gone on sale today and is now available from Verizon Wireless.

The HTC Thunderbolt is available from Verizon for $249.99 with a new two year contract, it can also be purchased without a contract for $599.99.

HTC Flyer 3G Tablet Up For Pre-order In The UK

We just got an email from UK retailer Clove, who now have the new HTC Flyer Android tablet up for pre-order and according to the email it will be released in mid April.

They have the HTC Flyer priced at £600 including taxes, although they did mention in the email that this price could change between now and when it actually goes one sale so it looks like an estimated price.

Sony Wins Access To George Hotz PayPal Records

The case between Sony, and PlayStation hacker George Hotz continues, recently we heard that Sony was granted access to the IP addresses of anyone who had visited Hotz’s website from January 2009.

Now in a recent court ruling a judge gave Sony permission to subpoena PayPal with regards to George Hotz’s PayPal account, which will allow them to see all transactions that went into his PayPal account from the 1st of January 2009.

PlayStation Move Creator Says Brainwaves Not Next Gaming Frontier

I don’t know if this is Sony’s attempt at spoiling Nintendo’s E3 announcement or just a pre-emptive strike against insolent OnLive-style start-ups with big ideas, but Move controller architect Richard Marks has a bone to pick with brainwave-harnessing input technology. And that bone is um, sweat. It’s probably better if I just let him explain.

Ubisoft Considering Assassin’s Creed, Ghost Recon Movies

An Assassin’s Creed movie? It’s already got so many of the Hollywood cliches ingrained they’d hardly even need to have a writer look over it. I can tell you right now Nathan Fillion probably isn’t going to be playing Altair. Or Ezio for that matter, but keeping in mind just how annoying that guy can get, especially in Assassin’s Creed 2, it’s probably all for the best.

Activision vs EA Lawsuit Full Steam Ahead

Apart from LG impounding a few thousand PlayStations some days ago nothing much was shaking in the glamorous world of video game lawsuits. Leave it to the EA and Activision grudge match to to liven things up a bit after a California judge gave the go-ahead for the trial.
