| Motorola Milestone Finally Gets Android 2.2 Posted: 15 Mar 2011 10:47 AM PDT Motorola Milestone owners here in the UK will be pleased to know that Motorola has finally released the Android 2.2 Froyo update for the Milestone, the update comes almost a year after the Milestone received Android 2.1, which was made available in May of 2010. Android 2.2 will bring a range of new features to the Motorola Milestone, which include support for Adobe’s flash 10.1, plus 3G mobile hotspot connecivity.

| Samsung Offers Robot Vacuum Cleaner with Camera in Korea Posted: 15 Mar 2011 09:52 AM PDT I like the idea of those robotic vacuum cleaners that you can have just zip around and vacuum your floors for you. I also like the idea of a remote controlled vacuum cleaner that I can use to chase the kids and pets around the house. Samsung has a new vacuum cleaner in Korea that combines a video robot with a cleaning bot.

| 3D Kinect Modelling Hack (video) Posted: 15 Mar 2011 08:46 AM PDT If you like the way Tony Stark creates his Ironman suit using virtual 3D models in his workshop. This 3D modelling hack created using a Microsoft Kinect game controller brings the concept a little closer to reality. Sebastian Pirch at 3rD-EYE, a media production company has been able to use a Kinect, and a set of homemade Arduino-powered gloves to create a 3D environment to create objects. His first development prototypes used arm extension to mimic mouse clicks for the system, but this method proved to be too exhausting for the user. This awesome Star Wars home theater is located in Honolulu, Hawaii, and features a 107 inch screen and even comes with life a life sized talking R2-D2 and C3PO.

| Hanfree iPad Stand Is Possibly The Worlds Largest iPad Stand Posted: 15 Mar 2011 07:45 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different stands and docks for the iPad here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one is called the Hanfree and it could quite possibly be the worlds largest iPad stand. As you can see from the photos below, the Hanfree iPad stand is pretty big, although according to the designers it is ‘lightweight, and easy to move around the house’

| VUDU 2D-3D Streaming Lands On Sony Blu-ray Devices Posted: 15 Mar 2011 07:38 AM PDT VUDU has today announced that its streaming video service will now be available on Sony’s Blu-ray devices, allowing owners to benefit from both 2D and 3D VUDU movie streaming. The VUDU streaming services will offer both 2 and 3D title on a pay-per-view tariff and will stream the content at 1080p complete with 5.1 Dolby Digital surround sound. Sony is looking to roll out support for the new feature acros its whole range of Blu-ray players.

| HP TouchPad webOS Tablet Coming In June Posted: 15 Mar 2011 07:32 AM PDT HP officially announced their new webOS tablet, the HP TouchPad last month, and now HP’s CEO Leo Apotheker has announced that the HP TouchPad will be available in June of 2011. He also mentioned something more about webOS on HP PCs, which we know is coming next year, but now it looks like there will be a beta of webOS running on Windows out by the end of this year.

The new app has been designed to allow you to stream live video footage directly to your Qik.com user page. It also allows you to make live video calls over either 3G or Wi-Fi connections as well and if both those methods fail to get the footage to its desired target audience. You can always post a live video link to your Facebook and Twitter accounts to allow friends to watch the moment as it is being recorded or even use the mail feature to create a video and then email in the footage to them.

| Is Apple Restricting Web App Speeds From iPhone iPad Home Screens? Posted: 15 Mar 2011 06:27 AM PDT Apple is being accused of running web apps, launched from iOS device home screens much slower than if they were run from within Apple Safari browser, reports The Register website. A number of developers have noticed that the iPhone,iPod and iPad OS seems to hamper the performance of web apps launched from the home screen and have run test on the Apple devices to highlight the issues. However its still not clear as to whether these issues are bugs within the iOS operating system or have been introduced by Apple.

| Verizon Makes HTC Thunderbolt Official, Coming March 17th Posted: 15 Mar 2011 05:55 AM PDT Earlier today we told you that online retailer Wirefly has announced that they would be selling the HTC Thunderbolt from the 17th of March, and now Verizon Wireless has officially announced the HTC Thunderbolt. The HTC Thunderbolt will be available on Verizon Wireless from Thursday the 17th of March, and it will retail for $249.99 when you sign up to a new two year contract with Verizon.

| Bioware Release Dragon Age 2 PC Patch to Correct Save Issues Posted: 15 Mar 2011 05:52 AM PDT Bioware has released a patch for its new Dragon Age 2 game which has been designed to fix a few issues PC users have been experiencing with the game. The issues include not being able to save the game on single core PC’s and random pop messages from Windows relating to drives that don’t exist. The new patch 1.01 does come with a warning from Bioware and is untested and comes strictly as a beta release, so be aware. Bioware is still working on the patch and hopes to release the fixes on to Steam shortly, possibly early next week.

| Pioneer DreamBook ePad H10 HD Android Honeycomb Tablet Posted: 15 Mar 2011 05:47 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different tablets from Australian computer make Pioneer Computers here at Geeky Gadgets, the last one was the DreamBook ePad F10 Windows 7 tablet, and the company has just announced their first Android 3.0 Honeycomb tablet, the DreamBook ePad H10 HD. The Pioneer DreamBook ePad H10 HD features a 10.1 inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, processing comes in the form of a dual core 1GHz NVIDIA Tegra 2 processor and there is also 1GB of RAM, and it comes with a five megapixel camera on the back and a two megapixel camera on the front for video chat.

| Toshiba Launches Satellite C670 Intel Core i3 Notebook Posted: 15 Mar 2011 05:28 AM PDT Toshiba has added a new notebook to their Satellite range with the launch of the new Toshiba C670 and C670D notebooks. The main difference between the two models is the processor with the C670 featuring an Intel Core i3 processor and the 670D featuring an AMD E-series processor. The Toshiba C670 Satellite Notebooks comes with a 17.3 inc TruBrite LED HD display, there is also up 8GB of DDR3 RAm, and a choice of integrated Intel GMA HD graphics for NVIDIA GeForce 315M graphics.

| No Nokia Windows Phone 7 Devices Until 2012 Posted: 15 Mar 2011 04:49 AM PDT The last things we heard from Microsoft and Nokia about the new Nokia Windows Phone 7 devices, that we should expect to see some Nokia WP7 handsets launching some time in October of 2011. Now it seems that this may not happen and we may actually have to wait until next year to see the first Nokia Windows Phone 7 smartphone hit the stores.

| Transformers MMO Launching In 2012 Posted: 15 Mar 2011 04:23 AM PDT Hasbro has teamed up with UK games developer Jagex, and they will be launching a new MMO transformers game in 2012, although details of the game seem to be pretty scarce at the moment. According to Matt Martin from Game Industry, the new Transformers MMO is scheduled to be launched in 2012. Hasbro will be launching this new game in the US Europe and Latin America.

| HTC Thunderbolt Coming 17th March Posted: 15 Mar 2011 03:57 AM PDT It looks like we may finally have an official launch date for the HTC Thunderbolt, we did expect it to go on sale last week, but now online retailer Wirefly has started taking pre-orders on the Thunderbolt and will start shipping it out to customers on the 17th of March. Verizon have yet to announce this as the official launch date of the HTC Thunderbolt, although we are hoping that this will be confirmed some time later today.

| Time Warner Cable Unveils New iPad App With Live TV (video) Posted: 15 Mar 2011 03:32 AM PDT Time Warner has announced its launching a new iPad application that will allow users of its Time Warner Cable TV service who subscribe to both video and Internet service, to be able to view live TV directly on their iPads, via their home Wi-Fi network. Once the new iPad app is opened a user will presented with a current programming list of their area with shows now playing. The programming list will also show what’s going to be shown later on, providing a comprehensive listing of all the show and TV content available on Time Warner Cable.

| Apple Applies For Apple Logo Trademark Used By The Beatles Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:54 AM PDT Apple has filed two trademark applications in Europe for the Apple Corps logo that was used by the Beatles, the trademark filing covers 14 international classifications which include computer hardware, social networking, mobile phones, gaming and many more. Apple Inc and Apple Corps have been in court a number of times over the past 20 plus year and Apple corps won two previous trademark infringement cases against Apple inc in 1981 and 1991.

Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:48 AM PDT Google is planning to step up its near-field-communication technology (NFC) with trials for payment system in both New York and San Francisco, according to a Bloomberg report. The report suggests that within the next four months Google plans to start testing its mobile-payment service at stores within the two cities. Paying for installation of thousands of special cash-register systems from VeriFone Systems Inc. (PAY) at merchant locations, explains one of Bloomberg’s anonymous sources.

| Activision Release Short Prototype 2 Teaser Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:35 AM PDT Activision’s new Prototype 2 game is not expected to land until 2012, but that hasn’t stopped Activision releasing a quick teaser to show a few of the effects they hope to include in their new sequel. The original Prototype game launched in 2009 and the sequel is now under development by Radical Entertainment published by Activision. The new Prototype 2 game will be an open world environment allowing the player to roam freely around the game levels, causing havoc and destruction in their path. | Microsoft To Kill Off The Zune Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:31 AM PDT Microsoft launch its first Zune player about five years ago, in an attempt to take on Apple and the iPod, unfortunately the Zune wasn’t anywhere near as popular as Microsoft had hoped and they failed to make a dent in Apple’s dominance of the portable media player market. It seems that Microsoft may be about to kill off its range of Zune players, according to a recent report by Bloomberg, and instead Microsoft will concentrate on putting its Zune software onto mobile phones, which will include Windows Phone 7 devices.

| Adobe Discovers Critical Vulnerability In Flash Player Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:14 AM PDT Adobe have issued a security announcement reporting they have discovered a critical vulnerability in their Flash Player 10.2.152.33 and earlier versions which affects Windows, Macintosh, Linux and Solaris operating systems. The newly discovered vulnerability within Flash Player could cause crashes and potentially allow an attacker to take control of the affected system. With reports of the security hole being used in the wild via a Flash file (.swf) embedded within a Microsoft Excel file (.xls).

| Kyocera Echo Dual Screen Android Smartphone Coming April 17th Posted: 15 Mar 2011 02:13 AM PDT Some of our readers will remember the Kyocera Echo that was announced last month, it is a dual screened Android smartphone that will come with Android 2.2 Froyo and it will be available with mobile operator Sprint in the US. The Kyocera Echo features two 3.5 inch WVGA displays, which are connected with a pivot hinge that allows you to use the displays in a number of different ways including as one large display, or two independent displays.

| iPad 2 Now Shipping In 4 To 5 Weeks Posted: 15 Mar 2011 01:56 AM PDT It seems that the shipping date of the new iPad 2 has been extended even further, last week after the iPad 2 went on sale the shipping date changed from 3 to 4 days to 2 to 3 weeks. We just checked the Apple online store, and for many models the shipping date has now been changed from 4 to 5 weeks, this applies to the 64GB WiFi only model and also the 32GB and 64GB iPad 2 with WiFi and 3G.

| Apple’s iPad 2 A5 Processor Produced By Samsung Posted: 15 Mar 2011 01:18 AM PDT We recently heard a rumor that Apple was switching from Samsung to TSMC for production of the new A5 processor in the iPad 2, it turns out that Samsung are the actual manufacturers of the A5 processor. We just got an email from Chipworks, who have taken the A5 processor apart, and they have confirmed that the models they have tested were actually manufactured by Samsung.

| T-Mobile Announces Android Sidekick 4G Posted: 15 Mar 2011 12:25 AM PDT T-Mobile has announced a new version of the Sidekick, and this one is powered by Google’s Android OS, and T-mobile describes it as the ‘Sidekick reborn’. The new T-Mobile Sidekick is made by Samsung, and it shares many design features with the original Sidekick, it still has a slide out QWERTY keyboard, and there is also a 3.5 inch Super AMOLED touchscreen display, and it comes with Android 2.2 Froyo plus a custom TouchWiz interface.
