The machines generally are crammed with the fastest GPUs and CPUs that the makers can get and then the integrated speakers for the audio system are apparently the cheapest they can lay hands on. Tesla Coils Kinect Hack (Video) Posted: 14 Mar 2011 09:13 AM PDT We have featured quite a few different Kinect hacks here at Geeky Gadgets, the latest one is definitely one of the coolest we have seen so far, the Tesla Coils Kinect hack. We just spoke to someone and Three and asked them if Three will be offering a subsidised iPad 2, and it looks like this may be an option, we will have more details later this week, including pricing details and information on the data plans. Rdio Releases API To Combat Immanent Arrival Of Spotify In The US Posted: 14 Mar 2011 08:21 AM PDT Rdio the US provider of unlimited access to music from your computer and mobile phone, even when you’re offline. Has now released developer API’s to help it get the jump on its competitor Spotify before it arrives in the US. Rdio is now allowing developers to use their new API’s to create new ways for people to discover, collect, share and play music via Rdio and in the process gain a more secure footing in the US market.

Eminent To Launch Android Based HD Media Player Posted: 14 Mar 2011 08:01 AM PDT Eminent has announced that they are working on a new HD media play which will use Google’s Android OS, the EM7297 hdMEDIA AND, and it looks like as well as playing HD movies on your HDTV you will also be able to use Android apps. The Eminent HD android media player will come with a version of Google’s Android OS, no details on which version as yet, it will also come with USB 3.0 connectivity, support for Flash 10, plus OpenGL and Gigabit LAN.

Angry Birds Rio For Android To Be Amazon Appstore Exclusive Posted: 14 Mar 2011 07:06 AM PDT Some of our readers will remember the new Angry Birds Rio game that was announced back in January, the game is based on the new animated film RIO and Rovio mobile have just announced that the Android version will be available exclusively through Amazon’s App store. Angry Birds Rio is a collaboration between 20th Century Fox and Rovio Mobile, and as well as being available for Google Android there will also be a version available for Apple’s ios devices.

iPad 2 Smart Cover Gets Taken Apart Posted: 14 Mar 2011 06:45 AM PDT We have already seen the new iPad 2 get taken apart by the guys over at iFixit, and it looks like they thought it would be a good idea to see what is inside the new iPad 2 Smart Cover. As we suspect there are quite a few magnets inside the iPad 2 Smart Cover, 21 in total, one of which is used to turn off the display on the iPad 2, the rest are used to attach the case to the iPad.

UK ISP’s To Publish Traffic Management Policies Posted: 14 Mar 2011 04:40 AM PDT If you live in the UK, and use broadband from one of the major providers, there will be a certain time of the day when you connection slows down, this happens to me on a regular basis, usually around 7pm when more people are online. Many of the ISP’s slow down connections at peak times to make sure that everyone is able to connect through their network, and this practice has come under quite a bit of criticism in the past. AR Magic Mirror iPad 2 Augmented Reality App (Video) Posted: 14 Mar 2011 04:16 AM PDT Total Immersion have released details of a new augmented reality application for Apple’s new iPad 2, which is called AR Magic Mirror, and the app will let you change your appearance and also your friends appearance using the built in cameras in the iPad 2. You can see the AR Magic Mirror app in action in the video below, it certainly does look like a lot of fun to use, and we suspect this will the first of many augmented reality applications for the new iPad 2.

70 Percent Of iPad 2 Sales Were To New Buyers, According To Analysts Posted: 14 Mar 2011 04:03 AM PDT According to research carried out by Piper Jaffray, the majority of the sales of the new iPad 2 were to new buyers, around 70 percent according to the report compiled by Piper Jaffray’s Gene Munster. They surveyed 236 buyers of the new iPad 2, and 70 percent of those people did not own the first generation iPad, although this is a small sample of people it gives a good indication that a lot of the iPad 2 buyers are new customers.

Rooted NOOKColor Tablet Receives Bluetooth And The Ability To Make Calls Posted: 14 Mar 2011 04:00 AM PDT If you have a rooted NOOKcolor and fancy using an external keyboard the team over at the XDA Forums have and interesting hack that uses the latest version of Cyanogen Mod, a custom ROM and comes from CM7 Developer "Kmoobs" who managed to bring bluetooth capability to the device. The Bluetooth which is turned off in the software by default can then be re-enabled. Even though support is still a little limited at the moment, it will allow you to use peripherals within close proximity to the NOOKcolour within a radius of about 13 inches, such as keyboards and even the possibility to use a Bluetooth headset in conjunction with Skype to make calls. Google has now added the EV Charging Stations included in the U.S. Department of Energy's National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) GeoEVSE Forum which has been designed to help construct a database providing EV users with a network of public charging stations to give EV drivers alternatives to home charging and can extend their driving range. Angry Birds Hits 100 Million Downloads Posted: 14 Mar 2011 03:20 AM PDT Angry Birds is now probably the most successful mobile game of all time, back in December Rovio Mobile announced they had hit a total of 50 million downloads across all platforms. We heard lat week that Angry Birds had reached a massive 30 million downloads on Google’s Android platform, and the company recently announced on Twitter that they have now hit a massive 100 million downloads.

Adobe Lightroom Moves To 3.4 RC, Now Available To Download Posted: 14 Mar 2011 03:09 AM PDT Adobe Labs have just released their latest update, Lightroom 3.4 RC for their Lightroom photographic software designed to be used in conjunction with Photoshop and provide an easy way to manage thousands of digital images whilst doing post production work. Lightroom is an image management application database which helps in viewing, editing, and managing digital photos, the same way photographers used to do in the non-digital world. iPad 2 Installed In A Truck (Video) Posted: 14 Mar 2011 02:59 AM PDT Last year when the original iPad was launched, the guys over at Sound Man Car audio decided to install an iPad in the dash of a Toyota Tacoma truck, and now it looks like they have got their hands on the new iPad 2, and have decided to install it in a 2010 F150. As you will see in the video below, they managed to get everything working on the iPad 2 inside the truck, including FaceTime, although it looks like it is hooked to WiFi in order to do this.

Hulu Plus Arriving On Android Soon? Details Appear On Hulu Plus Website Posted: 14 Mar 2011 02:55 AM PDT New details have appeared on the Hulu Plus website that may indicate the Hulu Plus service could be immanently arriving on Android smartphones running Android OS 2.2 or higher. The details on the Hulu Plus website have not yet been made official but state that selected Android smartphones running Android OS 2.2 and higher are likely to support the new Hulu application. However its also states that users interested in downloading the application will have to verify whether their phones feature on the supported list of handsets, which as yet has not been published by Hulu. But if your handset runs 2.2 you shouldn’t have to worry too much, I would have thought.

Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1 In Action (Video) Posted: 14 Mar 2011 02:41 AM PDT If you were wondering what Samsung’s new larger Android tablet, the Galaxy Tab 10.1 was actually like a video has been posted on YouTube by the guys from AndroidHD which gives us a really good look at the features on this new Android tablet from Samsung. As a reminder of the specifications, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 10.1, features a 10.1 inch display, which has a resolution of 1280 x 800 pixels, there is also a dual core 1GHz processor, plus two cameras, and it comes with Android 3.0 Honeycomb.

With AT&T announcing that they will soon be introducing caps on their DSL and U-Verse high speed Internet connections. The new updated to the packages will start on May 2nd and include a 150GB monthly cap on AT&T’s DSL connections and 250GB on AT&T U-Verse high speed Internet connection packages. Phil Schiller Says White IPhone Coming This Spring Posted: 14 Mar 2011 02:08 AM PDT We have been waiting for quite some time for Apple to launch the White iPhone 4, the last official word we had from Apple was the white iPhone 4 would launch in the spring of 2011. Now Apple’s Phil Schiller recently announced on Twitter, that the white iPhone would be available in spring, although he didn’t actually say it was the white iPhone 4.

iPhone 5 Will Not Come With NFC? Posted: 14 Mar 2011 01:46 AM PDT We have been hearing rumors for quite some time that the next generation iPhone, the iPhone 5 would feature NFC (Near Field Communication), there was even a job listing for Apple that hinted that the iPhone 5 would get NFC. Now according to the Independant, the iPhone 5 will not come with NFC technology built in, as they have apparently been told by a number of sources at European mobile operators.

Windows Phone 7 Marketplace Reaches 10,000 Apps Posted: 14 Mar 2011 01:31 AM PDT Back in December we heard that Microsoft’s Windows Phone 7 Marketplace had reached 5,000 apps, and now its looks like Microsoft’s new mobile OS has hit another milestone and the Marketplace has now reached 10,000 apps. According to Windowsphoneapplist, who monitor the number of applications available in the Windows Phone 7 Marketplace, there are now a total of 10,191 applications available.

Aikiou Pet Feeders Are Silly And Appealing Posted: 14 Mar 2011 12:07 AM PDT Indeed, it would be better to label these things feeders than bowls since either model looks nothing like the bowl you feed your favorite animals with. Pictured down south is the dog variant, shaped like a giant paw where the canines can then search for their food by pawing the hollowed out toes.

Posted: 14 Mar 2011 12:06 AM PDT The iPad 2 only went on sale on Friday in the US, and it looks like @comex has already managed to Jailbreak the new iPad 2, although there are no details on when the jailbreak will be made available to everyone as yet. The iPad 2 that was jailbroken was a Verizon Wireless model, and the 3G versions should also be able to be jailbroken, apprently it was jailbroken remotely, and the iPad 2 used belonged to @chpwn.
