February 29, aka Leap Day, is more a numerical oddity than your prototypical holiday. But Microsoft decided this year to throw a little party on that day by releasing the Windows 8 Consumer Preview. The first public beta of the new operating system is a radical departure from any Windows we've ever seen. In fact, getting used to the new "Metro" interface may require unlearning ingrained Windows behaviors. But the payoff could be worth it: According to PCWorld Senior Editor Jason Cross, who has been buried in the Windows 8 beta for the last several days, "It doesn't take long...before you're using new shortcuts and flying around the OS like an old pro." Want to get a sense of what Microsoft has brewing? Check out "Windows 8 Consumer Preview: A Visual Tour" to see if you want to take the leap and download the beta for yourself.
