| What About 13th Chords? The main varieties of 13th's you're likely to come across are dominant and major 13th's. As you have probably guessed, these are very rich harmonies that add a lot of spice to a chord. Again, the 9th is not needed to produce a full 13th chord but you do need the 7th.
