Bargain Bulletin

This week Today @ PCWorld blogger Ian Paul spent some serious deal-hunting time and came up with great bargains on tablets, laptops, and PCs (one of which I feature this week). I figured I'd try to top him, and I found great deals on fun consumer products for the holidays--a Roku media streamer for $45 and a great little Canon snapshooter for $110. Enjoy!

Roku 2 HD Streaming Media Player, $45

Roku 2The Roku 2 HD streaming video player earned 4 of 5 stars in our review earlier this year. The media streamer normally costs about $60, but Roku has it on sale for only $45, plus free shipping. Use coupon code mPkgError1 at Roku's checkout to get the deal. But watch out--Roku tries to add on extra-cost accessories. Make sure to click the tiny "no thanks" link at the bottom of the checkout page before proceeding.

Canon PowerShot Elph 100 HS Compact Camera, $110

Elph 100If you don't mind the color gray, you can get a great deal on a good little camera this week. Canon's PowerShot Elph 100 HS has 12-megapixel resolution and a 4X optical zoom with stabilization--and it cost $200 when it launched earlier this year. Right now Amazon.com is selling the PowerShot Elph 100 HS in gray for only $110, with free shipping. (The other colors are marked down as well, just not as dramatically.)

Free Software Worth a Donation, Part 2

We often think of software as either commercial or free. But there is another category of software: donationware. It's given away for free, in the hope that users will donate to support the application or a cause the developer wishes to bolster. Part II covers the lesser-known gems. For well-known software and some great reasons to donate, read "Part 1."
